Simplicity is the essence of Vis island tailored to men which is used in its whole by most visitors. Consequently, not just its protruding edges, Vis and Komiža, but also the numerous bays in the island’s interior leave you breathless with their luxuriant fertility. One of the reasons for Vis uniqueness lies in its 50 years of isolation as a military island where time had stopped. However, as so often happens in life, the thing that once seemed to be a disadvantage in the end turns out to be an important advantage.
Our tour starts early in the morning from prearranged location and we are going directly to Komiza. This village lies on the sunny side of the island and is well sheltered from cold northerly winds, in the bottom of the largest bay on the island and compacted within narrow alleys and slender houses. We will use few free hours here to explore untouched beauty of this domestic Croatian sea village.
After Komiza our journey continues towards Island of Bisevo, well known by its famous caves. The Blue Cave is located on this island. With regard to its geomorphology characteristics the cave is particularly interesting and represents a typical limestone structure. The special attractions in the cave are the distinctive light effects created by the fracture and reflection of sun rays from the sea bottom. The Blue cave is a favorite tourist destination in middle Dalmatia.
Next destination is Stiniva bay. During drive towards Stiniva we will enjoy in panoramic sightseeing of Vis island. Stiniva Bay is located on the southern part of the island of Vis. It is approachable from the sea through a narrow passage after which the bay broadens and ends in a beautiful beach. There is no road leading to the bay and for this reason it has managed to preserve its natural beauty.
After Stiniva our cruise leads us directly to the cave on the island of Ravnik, well known as the Green Cave. It is a cave formed by means of abrasion with two entrances and an aperture on the top through which light enters reflecting colors from the sea bottom painting its walls green. In the period of the Second World War, smaller warships also found shelter here. Now it is time ti relax in Smokova bay or Budikovac bay and after that we will continue to Vis town. Last stop is navy tunnel where you can explore army secrets of island Vis.
A note: Swimming in the Blue cave is forbidden. Without regard to possibility of waiting to enter into Blue cave, time-table is adjusted and all above mentioned places in trip description are visited.
